Our community has a new provincial champion to celebrate. The Peterborough U14 AA Wolverines captured the Ontario Summer Football League title Friday night, defeating the London Jr Mustangs 35-14 in the Dan Grossi Memorial Cup final at Western Alumni Stadium in London.
The championship victory marks a remarkable postseason run for the Wolverines, who entered playoff competition as the fourth seed in the OSFL East Division after compiling a 6-4 regular season record. Their opponents, the Jr Mustangs, also earned their championship berth as a fourth-place finisher, posting a 5-5 mark in the West Division during regular season play.
The decisive 21-point margin of victory showcased the Wolverines' ability to elevate their performance when it mattered most. After battling through a competitive regular season, the team peaked at precisely the right moment to bring home hardware to Peterborough.
The championship trophy carries special significance beyond the victory itself. The Dan Grossi Memorial Cup honors the late president of the Toronto Jr. Argonauts, whose legacy in youth football extends throughout Ontario. Dan Grossi earned widespread recognition for his tireless work supporting young athletes and their families across the football community, making this championship a fitting tribute to his memory.
