Vandalism delays opening of three pickleball courts at Bonnerworth Park

Three pickleball courts at Bonnerworth Park in Peterborough will remain closed Friday after vandalism damaged the playing surfaces ahead of the park’s scheduled seasonal opening.

City officials say rocks and balloons filled with high-visibility paint were thrown over the fence surrounding the courts earlier this week, damaging three of the 14 pickleball courts at the park on McDonnel Street.

One of the damaged courts is among the park’s accessible courts, which will now also remain closed until repairs can be completed.

The city says it does not yet know how long repairs will take or how much the damage will cost to fix.

The vandalism has been reported to the Peterborough Police Service.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact investigators at 705-876-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

The remaining courts at Bonnerworth Park are still expected to open as scheduled on Friday.
