Someone in our community is starting their week as a multi-millionaire after winning the $16 million LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball jackpot in Saturday night's draw.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation announced that the winning ticket for the life-changing prize was purchased right here in Peterborough for the May 30 draw. While we don't yet know who the lucky winner is, we do know they're now holding a ticket worth eight figures.
The jackpot was awarded through LOTTO 6/49's Gold Ball draw, a feature that guarantees a Gold Ball prize winner each time the game is played. This means someone walks away with a major prize every single draw — and this time, that someone is one of our neighbors.
The May 30 draw brought good fortune to other Ontario players as well. A ticket matching the LOTTO 6/49 second prize, worth $170,806.50, was sold in the Parry Sound-Nipissing area.
The identity of our local winner has not yet been released. OLG says more information will be provided once the ticket has been validated and the prize has been officially claimed. Until then, the mystery continues — and somewhere in Peterborough, someone is likely checking and rechecking their ticket to make sure this incredible news is real.
This marks one of the largest lottery wins in our community's recent history, and we'll be watching to see when the winner comes forward to claim their prize.
