Our community's coffers just got a significant boost. The City of Peterborough received $715,551 from Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) on Wednesday, marking the first-quarter payment for hosting Shorelines Casino Peterborough.
The payment covers the period from April 1 to June 30, 2026. Since Shorelines Casino Peterborough first opened its doors in October 2018, the city has collected $18,461,887 in total revenue-sharing payments from the gaming facility.
These quarterly payments aren't arbitrary—they're calculated using a standardized formula that OLG applies to all gaming sites across Ontario. The formula uses a graduated scale based on gaming revenue generated at each specific location, ensuring consistency in how host communities are compensated.
For our community, this means real dollars flowing into local priorities. Peterborough-Kawartha MPP Dave Smith emphasized the impact these funds have on everyday services residents depend on.
"OLG sharing these gaming revenues directly with Peterborough allows our community to invest in the local priorities that matter most to residents," Smith said, according to PtboCanada. "From boosting community services to maintaining local infrastructure, these quarterly host payments from Shorelines Casino Peterborough are a key part of protecting and enhancing the critical services our families rely on every day."
The revenue-sharing arrangement represents a significant ongoing benefit from hosting the casino facility. With nearly $18.5 million received over the past eight years, these funds have become an important component of the city's financial planning and ability to deliver services to residents.
