A violent incident in our downtown core has resulted in serious charges against a local man who was already under court-ordered supervision at the time of the alleged assault.
Peterborough Police responded to the area of Brock Street and Chambers Street at approximately 4:15 pm on Friday, July 10, following reports of an assault in progress. When officers arrived on scene, they learned that a victim had allegedly been assaulted with a piece of wood.
The suspect had already fled the area before police arrived. However, a description of the individual was shared with officers in the area, allowing them to begin searching for the alleged assailant.
A man matching the description was later located near Murray Street and placed under arrest. As investigators pieced together what had occurred, they determined that the suspect had also taken property from the victim during the assault, elevating the charges to include robbery with violence.
The 28-year-old Peterborough man now faces assault with a weapon and robbery with violence charges. Additionally, he has been charged with four counts of failing to comply with a probation order, indicating he was already under court supervision when the alleged incident occurred.
The accused was held in custody following his arrest and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on July 11.
