A 20-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges after our local police investigated a hit-and-run collision that took place in a residential neighbourhood last month.
The incident occurred on Marsdale Drive on May 9, prompting members of the Peterborough Police Traffic Unit to launch an investigation. Nearly a month later, on June 4, officers executed a search warrant at a local residence, where they seized a vehicle believed to be connected to the collision.
The investigation progressed over the following week, culminating in the arrest of the suspect on June 12. The accused now faces four charges stemming from the incident.
The charges include obstructing a peace officer, permitting the operation of a motor vehicle without insurance under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, failing to apply for a vehicle permit upon becoming the owner under the Highway Traffic Act, and failing to report an accident.
Police released the accused on an appearance notice. He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on September 1.
Authorities have not released additional details about the collision itself or whether anyone sustained injuries in the incident. The investigation remains ongoing, and police may release further information as it becomes available.
The case serves as a reminder of the legal obligations drivers face following any collision, including the requirement to remain at the scene and report accidents to authorities.
