A Peterborough man is facing impaired driving charges after a concerning incident Saturday night that saw his vehicle leave the roadway and strike a parked car in our community.
The Peterborough Police Service received multiple 9-1-1 calls around 10:30 p.m. reporting a vehicle driving onto the sidewalk in the area of Milroy Drive and Evans Drive. According to police, the vehicle struck a parked car before the driver left the scene.
Officers quickly launched an investigation that led them to a residence in the Cumberland Avenue and Franklin Drive area. When police spoke with the driver, they observed signs of impairment, leading to his arrest.
The accused now faces two charges: operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams, and failure to stop after an accident. These are serious offenses that carry significant penalties under Ontario law.
As part of standard procedure for impaired driving arrests, the man received an automatic 90-day license suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. These immediate administrative penalties take effect regardless of the outcome of criminal charges.
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, August 18. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of making safe choices behind the wheel.
