The Peterborough Police Service responded to Beavermead Park beach shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026, after receiving reports that a person had entered the water and not resurfaced. The incident unfolded during what would have been a busy summer evening at the popular waterfront location.
When officers arrived on scene, they pulled the 22-year-old man from Markdale, Ontario, from the water and immediately began life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, the young man was transported to Peterborough Regional Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead.
The Peterborough Police Service released details of the incident in a news release issued Saturday. The beach at Beavermead Park was temporarily closed following the emergency but has since reopened to the public.
