Our community's commitment to supporting children and families in need shone brightly once again as the Kawartha Tri-Sport Tournament wrapped up its milestone 10th year with an impressive fundraising total.
Five Counties Children's Centre in Peterborough received $30,000 from the tournament's $100,000 total raised during the three-day event held in Ennismore. The tournament, which brought together athletes and supporters for baseball, hockey, and golf competitions, also directed funds to Down Syndrome Canada and local families facing hardship.
The substantial donation will directly support families accessing critical services at Five Counties, ensuring that children can receive the care they need without traveling far from home.
"We are incredibly grateful to Kawartha Tri-Sport and everyone who took part in this year's tournament," said Five Counties CEO Scott Pepin, speaking to ptbotoday.ca. He emphasized that the funds will help ensure children and families can continue to access essential services close to home, including speech therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and programs that build abilities for life.
The tournament's success reflects the dedication of organizers and participants who understand the importance of investing in our community's youngest members. Tournament co-organizer Christina Scott captured this spirit perfectly: "Supporting Five Counties is just one small way we can make a difference together," she told ptbotoday.ca.
The impact of the Kawartha Tri-Sport Tournament extends well beyond this year's event. Since launching in 2016, the tournament has raised more than $400,000 for local charities, demonstrating how sustained community effort can create meaningful change for families who need support most.
As we celebrate this 10th anniversary milestone, the tournament stands as a testament to what our community can accomplish when we come together around a shared purpose—ensuring every child has access to the services and support they need to thrive.
