An unusual escape attempt following a vehicle collision has resulted in serious charges for a Peterborough resident in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
Northumberland OPP officers were called to Centennial Lane around 6 p.m. on July 18 after receiving reports that a pickup truck had collided with a tree. When police reached the crash site, they discovered the vehicle empty—the driver had already fled.
According to investigators, the driver made his way to a waterfront area and departed on a personal watercraft, leaving the damaged truck behind. The unconventional getaway, however, proved short-lived.
Police eventually tracked down the suspect after receiving additional calls about a pedestrian shouting at passersby on a different road. Paramedics were brought to the location as a safety measure, though authorities confirmed no one sustained serious injuries in the incident.
The 25-year-old man now faces six charges. He's been charged twice with operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and drugs, and twice with operating while having a blood alcohol level exceeding the legal threshold. Additional charges include dangerous operation of a vehicle, leaving the scene of a collision, and failing to report property damage.
Foster is set to make a court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg this September. In the meantime, his driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days, and the pickup truck involved in the crash was impounded for seven days.
